I think Luigi is French. Why? There are many reasons, but the more important are mentioned here.

1. He can't understand what his "brother" Mario is saying. Of course, Mario could be talking to Bowser in Turtlespeak, but why would Mario know Turtlespeak? Unless... Hmm, I'll save that for later.

2. He's a pansy. Mario's always out there fighting the evil Goombas while Luigi sits at home. Occasionally, Luigi will come out into the adventuring world, but only when Mario wants to rest (or dies).

3. He has no fashion sense. Sorry, green is just not as cool as red. You know this is true because the red Koopas are the ones that are smart enough to turn around when they get to a cliff. That shows intelligence.

Any other thoughts on Luigi?

..Since when couldn't Luigi understand him? ....Luigi is saying "WHAT?!" Because..they're all saying blah. And..I do believe that they're brothers, by blood, Mario Mario, Luigi Mario..making them both italian. Though..I could be wrong..I might have heard somewhere that luigi was adopted..but I STILL think he's itallian, either way. He wears green because it contrasts mario's red. (like most superheros/sidekicks outfits did back then)

I have to go with the adopted thing. And here's why (yes, I like explaining things to death):

It isn't actually Liugi Mario, it's Louis G. Mariot. As the French pronounce it, "LOO-ee JEE Mar-ree-OH". As you can see, it's easy to confuse that with the Italian version.

Louis was kicked out of France for whatever reason, and had to emmigrate to Italy. Some people believe that he was exiled for showering too often, but I don't believe that myself.

Louis needed to work, so of course got a job as a plumber, where he met Mario Mario. He noticed the remarkable similarity in their names, so told Louis to use the spelling of Luigi Mario so he would fit into Italian culture a little better.

Over time they became the best of friends. They get along so well that people often miscontrue them for brothers, which is understandable.

Also, Mario and Luigi are twins, according to some official thing (was either the cartoon or the movie).

Anyways, the Stark is carrying Mario AND Luigi, and like, a Kooopa Witch thing attacks the Stark, and kidnaps Luigi, and Mario falls.... Far...

But like, Yoshi catches him... And the journey begins.

And yeah, it's fun.

I've seen the Mario Movie, that's so old with King Koopa the white(as in WHITE) guy and Goombas the big things and Toad the banjo player. I havn't much opinion on Luigi's Origin but I believe he's being either chicken or oppressed. You don't see Luigi in Dr. Mario, or Yoshi's Cookie, or Mario RPG(Except his Wish) or even Mario is Missing! Wait....Talon you idiot!

There was this one comercial that showed Mario and Luigi as kids playing together. The comercial was about a Mario game where Mario and Luigi fight together with combo moves.

Luigi and Mario are brothers almost every game says so.(forget the movie it say that says thaat Luigi was adopted or something.)

luigi must have some sort of koopa troopa inplants though because in some of the games he has a green mustache thats just strange very strange
