The titles are now based off the quality of your posts and not the number of posts you make. This means all you spammers might as well enjoy being koopa troopas.

I'm pissed, but it's a good idea really. It will help keep this forum a good forum and now people should put more effort in their posts(Ice Shards is a good example, so is MatrixWarrior). But I've been downgraded to a Pirahna Plant! Does this mean you will be editting our titles manually now?

It's still done by the site, but the formula for figuring it out is going to be a secret so hopefully no one can abuse it. Piranha Plant has actually been lowered to be above Goomba. If you goto the "Member List" and click on "Titles", it will rank everyone in title order.

Oh cool, I knew Goomba was the lowest rank though. Hammer Brother, what does that come after, and why is MatrixWarrior that same rank as me, he does nothing but spam....*gasp* does that mean I do nothing but spam?

I'm no longer the top poster(In a way) so I'll just have to work my way to the top again! I really can't figure out how the title system could work automatically if it's by quality of posts. Maybe that's why Wolfenhex put Word and Letter statistics.

I agree completely with the new title system. I'm a little higher, though not quite as high as I'd like. I suppose these things come with time. It's time for us all to enhance the quality of the forum by only posting meaningful posts. Spamming is still fun, but just how much is it worth to you? I, for one, am proud of my title, and I feel pad for those that are in the fishy ranks.. I am not about to be fish food! LOL

Congrats to those that have high titles, and better luck next time to those that do not.

You make really good points...I just hope that everyone dosen't get tooo serious about this. Lets remember that we have a spam section for us to spam to out hearts content and have fun!! I'm not to worried about my title, but its good to know that I'm not spamming to much. ( I was wondering about that anyways) I just don't want this thing to get out of hand and if there is even the littlest bit of spam on a topic for everyone to freek. ( Which I'm not saying that everyone will, its just a worse case senerio):)

I'm not too big on spam myself. Titles aren't the end-all be-all of posting here, but they're fun. They give you an idea about the quality of posts to expect from a certain person when you're reading their posts and are debating on replying to them. Or, for that matter, starting a conversation with them.

The point of the Forum is to provide a community where people can talk about the Comic, their interests, and other things of that sort. There is a spam folder, and it has its place. I know that the folder's creation takes some of the fun out of spamming, but those of us that don't like readon spam need not read it. It is, however, fun to read if you're really bored, or if you're the spamming type, lol.

And besides.. people who like to spam are likely to not really care about titles, for their life is in the SPAM!! But ti's a fun thing to watch for those of us, like myself, who just lurk around the forum and post on occasion.

The new title system it's cool. I think it's more effesent(is that how you spell it?) and no more constant spamming or pointless posts.Now there's more interesting posts and I get to work on my typing skills! But I do miss my old title, whatever I was.

Yeah, I took the title "Brick" as in, it's literal meaning in Super Mario Brothers.


A brick, one of which is lifeless, and yet can still contain a spark! Possible suprises may spurt from this brick, and those suprises are mostly unexpected.

Yes, Shadic.. I am still here. I had no idea that I was such a staple in the diet of LAF-goers, especially those of us that have been around for quite some time.

Indeed, the important thing to note, as I've said in another thread, it to concentrate on the quality of your posts. The purpose of this new title system (in my humble opinion) is to increase the quality of posts in the forum in general. So, by concentrating on writing good quality posts, your title will surely increase.

And yes, I hope to be around for along time to come. I hope this lays to rest any rumors that may have surrounded my apparent disappearance, for although I take brief vacations from time to time, I never really do go away.

As for the Fishy ranks.. they are very respectable in terms of their standing in the hierarchy of ranks. I just don't like being a fish, especially when I can be a Hammer Brother. :)

Ok, did a little tweaking and now the fishes are the lowest ranks (aside from goomba and piranha plant).

Remember:
Quality posts will raise you.
Quick replies will lower you.

Unless you are Sabin, then you can make quick, quality replies! Okay, so maybe I am not all that quick, but I do try to post with high quality.

I think it is great that the fishes are lowest. That should teach the spammers! As of this writing, I am Buzzy Beetle, and I hope to never again be reduced to the ranks of the fishes. Of course, one can never be sure.

I don't know what you changed, but I think your new system is more accurate, looking at the listings. As much as I despise TheHobbit for his ranking, I do honor the quality of his posts.

I would like to echo Wolfenhex's notice to the world: Do good quality posts, and not crappy replies saying, "Yeah, okay" or something. But I would like to add one more bit of advice.. Be yourself. After all, what is the point of a posting forum if you can't be yourself?

Hey you! Yeah you! Sukura! No taking direct advantage over how the ranking system works! Expecially no giving cheats, hints, or tips on how to get a higher ranking!

All I can say is, make long, detailed, intelligent, and (Most importantly) high quality posts to advance in ranking... Other than that, not much that you got get legitimately.... (If I spelled that right, it means "Within the rules of something")

Now, just so you know, the Red Cheep Cheep is better, and those ranks (The fish ones) are not ranks that you want to be! Look at me, I'm a Koopa Troopa, only a green one! I walk off cliffs, and do other stupid stuff! That is still better of a rank than any fish foe in Super Mario Brothers! So, try not to be a Cheep Cheep, no, try not to be any sort of fish enemy! All of those are ranks than you want to stay away from!

Take my advice, and excel! I hope to see you rank higher (At least to a Red Cheep Cheep) very soon Dustminion! As for you Talon, it will be much harder, as your large padding of spam posts will prevent any new, high quality posts from having too much of an effect! But alas, you must try to excel!

Yes, the Cheep Cheep (red) is higher than the Cheep Cheep (pink), and all fish ranks are lower than the Koopa Troopas. I have not really been able to discern exactly how Wolfenhex has his Post Quality system set up. All I can say is that while paging through the forum, people who post high-quality posts are of a generally higher rank than those who spam and those who just post quickie replies.

Remember what I have said many times: Just post quality posts. Don't worry about how it will affect your ranking, because if it is a good post, you will get a better ranking. This much, I trust in Wolfenhex.

And, as Wolfenhex is a friend of mine, I know how he operates (although I do not usually understand why). If he thinks that too many people are using and abusing his system, there is a good chance that he will change the system. This is for much the same reason that he does not like people posting Comic ideas, for he will not use then if someone else thought of them first.

The system he is using now seems to be working fairly well (particularly because I have a high rank), so let's not do anything to make him want to change it, okay? Please?

The system was probably tweaked slightly... I moved from Hammer Brother to Buzzy Beetle, and didn't do anything at all. Most notably, there is a distinction between Cheep Cheep (pink) and Cheep Cheep (red), now. Also, the figh ranks have been moved nwar the bottom, because Spammers are Cheep.. err, I mean.. Cheap. In any even, your rank still shows your relative rank amongst the other posters. The people below you are still probably below you, and vice versa. Don't be too discouraged if your title has changed and you are not really sure why that happened.

Besides, as long as you're a Koopa, all is well! Just don't turn into a fishy, or we might not like you...

The Forum is forever evolving. Do not be surprised to see a LOT of things change as the months fly by. And by the way, TheHobbit... I am still coming for you. *grin*

To be courteos, I hope your way to TheHobbit's level. As to Shadic, me making it up to the top will be very diffucult, as my progress went from making me to the top, to dropping me to the worst of the ones who actually post. I'm not THE worst, but out of all us who post daily/regularily, I am worst. Once again I bid you all good luck and refrain from fishing untill Ice Shards becomes one. :)

Meh, it'd be better if we could give ourselves our own title. Having a ranking system is just going to make people post for the sake of bringing their rank up, and not post for conversation and the like.

Anyone can judge how someone is by reading their posts and the like, not based on how many posts they have/which SMB baddie is under their user name.

From what I have noticed, all of the ranks are based on SMB1 enemies. I do not recall the existence of a green Cheep Cheep in the game, although I could be mistaken.

I am afraid that I do not share your wishes for a title feature separate and independant of your rank. Your rank is based upon the quality of your posts, and your title is based upon your rank. Your Handle is how you are personalized on the Forum, and I do not see how having a personalized title will enhance that beyond the current system of Handle and Title. I am sure that Wolfehnex would seriously consider your request, and I would vehemently support it, if I could understand the purpose that it would serve.

Superkoopa: The Cheep Cheep (red) is higher than the Cheep Cheep (pink). The Koopa Troopas are higher than the fish ranks, and the Paratroopas are higher still. I am not excatly sure where Buzzy Beetle is on the scale, but I am sure that it is above Paratroopa, but below Hammer Brother. Perhaps Hex would grace us with a list of the order of ranks? It would be most helpful. :)

Any suggestions for the Forum should be e-mailed to the Creators. There is nothing wrong with posting them here, but there is no guarantee that they will read this particular thread or post. The best way to get your idea into the Creators' minds is to tell them directly. A lot of you are full of great ideas, some of which may be implemented some day!

Well okay, makes sense and all. I havn't seen any other forum with a name, title AND rank. Title and rank are generally the same thing(Like here). I believe there are green cheep cheeps in SMB1, but I could just have a good imagination. I think they only appear in a level or 2. Grey Cheep Cheeps are frequent though, I DON'T remember any pink ones. I actually can't find the address to e-mail Wolfenhex at, maybe it's smack in my face and I'm an idiot. Who knows?

As for the posting thing, it is actually that Talon is in a below-average rank. Averaging 21 words a post is not something to be proud of.

Me, here (Shadic, not goomba obsessor!) Is at a 31, and is raising that slowly! Ehehe! I laugh at you manically! As, I have decided to reach at least rank 10 by the end of this week! Guess who will stop me? Not you! You'd have to make posts that would be deleted instants later to even try to get up here before then! Mwahaha! But, getting high requires much concentration! I'm a girl and I can fight rather well too. I try to stay out of fights cuz (I just have to say it) fighting is not the answer. Ok, you want the real reason....it's because most people who want to fight me are under age. (AKA assault charges made against me) and they are just so pathetic that they really arn't worth my time, and I don't like being in fights. That and I really don't need to get in trouble right now. Beleave it or not, I made it through all of Jr. High and Hight school without a single detention. The trick.... I didn't get caught.

Is Wolfenhex going to keep the title system the way it is now...or now that some people have found out (I think..but have they really?) how to get high titles, will he change it again? *ponders*

Titles will not be custom. Overall I never liked the ranking/title system idea, but it was a way to get people to post on the forum when it first came out. I would have removed it, but it seems to have become an obsession around here.

I think many of you have got the general idea of how people are ranked. If it is abused, I will make much more drastic changes or get rid of it all together.

Ok, someone already went off and abused the new system. I made the check a little stricter which mean it may not count some things, but really shouldn't effect the overall standings much. I also changed the titles around so now Bloobers are actually seen (they are the lowest).

Talon is right, they are gray, not pink (don't know why I thought they were pink). I haven't found any green ones though. I think those were in SMB3, not SMB1.

Okay......I was right, but I'm still the same rank! Oh well, that's okay. Green Cheep Cheeps, they ARE in SMB1, but I'm not sure where, could be in the Lost Levels, maybe not.

Although I'm totally for ditching the ranking altogether, I don't really care either way.

HOWEVER..I do think it's sort of..well, maybe unfair that there are people in high places with NO posts. I'm in..7th, I think, I have 2 people ahead of me with 0 posts, one with 1 post, and one with 9, which..actually isn't bad at all. But if you're trying to go for quality..I don't think people with zero/one posts have higher quality then mine (Maybe I'm just conceited. >.>) Either that, or my posts REALLY suck..

More than likely Talon, when spammers are on, and they spam, their rank would drop, I haven't seen as many spammers since this whole new rule kicked in. Ie: matrixwarrior.

In reply to the original topic, I'm surprised this took so long. I pop on here every now and again, but I've never once been able to stay because of the pointlessness of so many posts.

Truthfully, I doubt I will now, even. Seems like people are finding a way around this, too. Might have been better off, Wolfenhex, to just tell people that you personally changed the titles. People would've believed it, and no one would be working their way around it. But that's just how I am.

Is there someplace where I can find all the ranks and such in order? Or maybe someone who's informed could make one? Hehe.

That's because avatars are resized here. If you don't want it resized, then don't make avatars bigger then the max size allowed (128x128 I believe).

Here's my (late) reply to the filter thing. I meant filtering users, though filtering of certain words would also be nice, as apparently some people really don't want to discuss some topics.

Filtering/ignoring users makes my trips to the forums I know that have this (AOL's boards are most prominent right now) much better. Some people get incredibly annoying without breaking any rules. Individual users can save time and a little frustration by not having to load posts they skip anyway.

One problem with resizing any GIF is the fact that if it has a transparent background, it will be blended with nearby colors giving that rough aurora around things.

The other problem is that the different frames of an animated GIF are resized differently. Basically what is happening is to save space, an animated GIF will only save the changed pieces on the next frame. This results in almost every frame having different image dimensions. So in resizing, it causes many problems.

Basically the only solution is not to use animation or transparency in a GIF that is bigger than the max size allowed.

Most other forums don't actually resize your image (and the ones that do use the same method we are using). They store the image as the same file as you uploaded then uses the browser to resize them. This works fine, but then requires people to download bigger file sizes than needed which is why sometimes you find avatars that take forever to load.

Dang Rabbit! I've been making mine transparent so they load easier, look better and save space.

It used to be then people started spaming to much and not replying to the topic and whatnot. Eventually it got out of hand and now it is what you see today.

It WAS that way yes, but people spammed too much, I did a little bit. I have the most posts, but most of them aren't worth much, so Wolfenhex changed it to quality of posts.

Sakura abused a hole in the title system. "Nothing's perfect" seems to be a hard concept for people to grasp here. It's flawed, but it's still much better then post counting.

The "Green Eyes" comment is based on the fact that the Zero recolour sprites that Talon made for me have green eyes, hence the new nickname.

If I make a support unit for anyone, i'd make one for me! I only make funny costumes for Talon. I actually have begun to produce sprites of a support unit for Dan. Talon would get first chance at a support unit anyways.

Ice Shards the only thing that Talon showed me was how to use the eraser technequie and Sprites Inc. Also Unfreez but I pretty much tuaght my self to animate and I only recolor sprites more then I edit them!

I really have to agree with Dusty on this, we need to get back to talking about the new title system. Like why we like it, what we think is wrong with it, so on and so fourth.

I think this would be a good time to now post comments on how we feel about the title system now that we've had it for a while now. And any sugestions on how to make it better if they dont like it.
